Welcome to Motala

#sweden 🇸🇪 #europe
Motala is a lakeside city in central Sweden, set on the shores of Lake Vättern where the Göta Canal meets the water. With its scenic harbour and relaxed pace of life, it is a lovely place to slow down and enjoy a good meal with a view.

Hamnkrogen: quiet lunch with a view over Lake Vättern

🔗
Right in the heart of Motala harbour, at the inlet to the Göta Canal, you will find Hamnkrogen: a quiet restaurant with one of the best lunch views in town. From the tables you look straight out over Lake Vättern and the harbour, with boats coming and going. It is the kind of place where you do not rush; you sit down, enjoy the time, and share a good long lunch.
They work with a weekend lunch concept called Helglunch, which changes every week. You usually get to choose between several hearty Swedish classics, a vegetarian or vegan option, and a pasta of the week. A recent menu included Dansk skomakarlåda with red wine sauce and homemade mashed potatoes, breaded cod back with egg and parsley sauce, Hamnkrogen's own kåldolmar with cream sauce, lingonberries and boiled potatoes, a falafel smash burger as the veggie option, and pasta with parmesan sauce and chopped beef. The evening à la carte menu takes a lot of inspiration from the lake and the sea, with dishes like char and pike-perch.
As with a proper Swedish lunch, the price always includes a generous salad buffet, bread, butter, a meal drink, plus coffee and a homemade cookie. For 2026 the Helglunch is 149 SEK per person, served Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 to 16:00.
